Inclusion at CHIS

The Learning Pathways Department

The Learning Pathways (TLP) Department was established to further personalise learning for our students. Led by a team of Inclusion and English as an Additional Language (EAL) specialists, this distinctive department offers a tiered level of support to quickly place students in the right level of provision for their needs.

The TLP team offers short, medium and long-term instruction of carefully differentiated, individualised teaching in small groups and larger classes. Our methods are guided by the United Kingdom’s Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) system for children and young people aged 0 to 25.

Our Approach

We conduct baseline assessments to learn their areas of development by analysing their spelling, reading and writing. Students are then grouped according to the intensity of their difficulties and receive provision to support these gaps in their knowledge.

At Week 12, we reassess our students to evaluate the impact of provision and readjust, if necessary. In the event that a student does not make the expected progress, we add another layer of support and work more closely with them.

Intervention Programmes

Catch-Up Reading

The Catch-Up Literacy Intervention Programme supports the development of reading fluency and spelling. Its kinaesthetic approach to reading reinforces the sounds of the alphabet – blending and segmenting words correctly. By teaching words in relevant contexts and hosting workshops, 24-month reading progress is observed within six short weeks.

English as an Additional Language Classes

EAL classes are designed to support students with verbal and vocabulary scores below a certain threshold. These classes skillfully balance the teaching of writing, reading, speaking and listening in English. Classes are guided by the individualised needs of our students.
